The Caroni Bird Sanctuary is a mangrove swamp covering an area of 40 square miles on Trinidad’s North West Coast. We board a large flat-bottomed boat at 5:00 AM and slowly travel along the beautiful peaceful waterways and lagoons admiring the bizarre beauty of the landscape and a variety of birds and other wildlife. The most astounding among these birds are the Scarlet Ibis, a large bright red bird feeding and nesting here. This tour is world-renowned among ornithologists as it offers the observer an opportunity to see this rare protected bird with very little effort.
This sunrise tour gives a unique opportunity different from the usual evening tour. At these early hours, you will witness the spectacle of the Scarlet Ibis leaving their nesting grounds, all at once in an explosion of red against the dawn backdrop. A beautiful photo opportunity, or simply a calm and refreshing way to start the day surrounded by the serenity of mother nature.
